          WINTER HOLIDAYS PROJECT

    • Research the history and customs of the Winter Holidays, Christmas, Hanukkah,  and Kwanzaa. Your research should include a cover page, an outline, three pages of information (one page per holiday) with related graphics and a list of the information sources you used. Due by  Thursday 12-15-11.  
    • As an alternative you can choose to create a poster that displays your information, you also have the option of creating a greeting card for each of the three holidays.The inside of each card should give at least four facts about the history and customs of the holiday.  
      • Yes, you can work with a partner on this. Eighth graders are encouraged to partner with a 7th grader.

      FACT : On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy  was assasinated. 

      1. Write three (3) researchable questions about the fact above.
      2. Use available resources to answer each of your questions.
      3. List the sources that you used to answer each question.  

     

    On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery on the  Civil War battlefield of Gettysburg,Pennsylvania.

    Rewrite the Gettysburg Address  in your own words, without using any of the phrases that Lincoln used. Your address could be a speech, a poem, a song, a rap or in any format that helps you best express its meaning.

     I "prefer" that your paper be typed, but being typed is not mandatory.

    Your work must be neat !...Remember...

    There will time to work on this in class, but some of the research will have to be finished independently.

     

    Your completed  research paper has to be turned in  on or before November 9, 2011.

      Use the form you were given in class to Design a “STAMP” about a “special” person,animal, place,or event. Include an explanation of who, when, where, and why about the subject of the stamp: provide sources cited. Due by Friday October 21, 2011.

     

      Hispanic Heritage Month POSTER......

      In September 1968 President Johnson proclaimed the observance of Hispanic Heritage Week to celebrate the culture and traditions of Hispanic Americans.   Twenty years later in 1988, the observance was changed to Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is observed  from  September 15th to October 15th.

    This month you will finish the question...
      " Who is_____________?" with the name of a famous (or not so famous) Hispanic figure that you want to research.  

    In your own words create a biographical display board about the Hispanic figure that you have chosen. You can choose from the list that was given to your group in class, or you can choose another Hispanic figure to report on. Include at least three sources.
